How a 5kW solar system fills a 13.5kWh battery each month

💡

89% of battery charging from solar

In winter months, grid charging tops up your battery. With the right energy plan, you can charge during off-peak periods at very low rates - or even free.

Monthly averages based on typical weather. Cloudy days and seasonal variation mean some days will need grid top-up to fully charge your battery. Assumes ~35% of daily usage (5 kWh) during solar hours.

Batteries in Central Coast

The Central Coast has one of NSW's highest rates of rooftop solar installation, creating strong demand for battery storage.

High solar adoption region between Sydney and Newcastle

Central Coast is served by Ausgrid. With 4.6 average daily sun hours, a well-sized battery system can significantly reduce grid dependence and electricity costs.

Central Coast Battery Rebates 2025

Federal Rebate (All Australians)

Central Coast residents qualify for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program:

  • ~$372 per kWh of usable battery capacity (9.3 STCs × $40)
  • ~$5,000 for typical 13.5kWh battery, max $18,600 (50kWh cap)
  • Battery must be VPP-capable
  • Commissioned on or after 1 July 2025

New South Wales State Rebate(VPP Incentive)

NSW offers a VPP incentive worth $40-55 per kWh of battery capacity, which nearly doubled from 1 July 2025 and stacks with the federal rebate.

  • VPP incentive: $40-55 per kWh (approx. $400-550 for 10kWh battery)
  • Battery must have 2-28kWh usable capacity
  • Can be combined with federal rebate for maximum savings
  • The Empowering Homes interest-free loan is no longer accepting applications
  • Federal rebate (~$372/kWh in 2025, ~$3,720 for 10kWh) is available

Central Coast Battery FAQs

Why is the Central Coast good for batteries?

High existing solar penetration means many homes are already exporting valuable solar energy for low feed-in rates. A battery captures this value instead.
