Frequently Asked Questions: Western Australia Batteries

Does the federal battery rebate apply in WA?

Yes, Western Australian residents qualify for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate. However, VPP requirements may differ in the SWIS grid compared to NEM states. Check that your battery and installer meet WA-specific requirements.

What is solar soaking and why does it matter for WA batteries?

Solar soaking occurs when midday solar generation exceeds grid demand, driving wholesale prices negative. WA has significant solar soaking issues. A battery lets you store this excess solar instead of exporting for near-zero value.

How do WA feed-in tariffs compare to eastern states?

WA feed-in tariffs vary by retailer but are typically 2-7c/kWh. With retail prices of 28-35c/kWh and excellent solar resources, the spread makes batteries highly attractive in Perth and surrounding areas.
